New Living Translation:
“Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.”(Proverbs 13:3)
Contemporary English Version:
“Keep what you know to yourself, and you will be safe; talk too much, and you are done for.”
“People who are careful about what they say will save their lives, but those who speak without thinking will be destroyed.”
Good News Translation:
“Be careful what you say and protect your life. A careless talker destroys himself.”
Beloved, Carefully consider what is in your mind before you speak out so that you can keep your soul from a great deal both of guilt and grief. Let your tongue be governed by the Lord. Do not take liberty to speak every thing that pleases you or that you have not processed in your mind, to prevent destruction, from God or men.
Keep yourself from many troubles and dangers by bridling your tongue. Do not be rash, inconsiderate, or hasty with your lips, do not be a talkative man; that speaks freely everything that comes into his mind, regardless of the characters of men you’re talking to, or consequences of things. Do not talk away your glory and success and that of your loved ones, do not expose yourself and others to dangers by talking too much, so as to prevent destruction, delay and difficulty. Be disciplined!
