“He shows mercy to everyone, from one generation to the next, who honors him as God.”
The Message:
“His mercy flows in wave after wave on those who are in awe before him”.
Amplified Bible:
“And His mercy is upon generation after generation Toward those who [stand in great awe of God and] fear Him.”
Beloved, If you want to experience God’s mercy in its fullest, fear Him in all you do. It’s not a slavish fear or the kind of fear which a servant has of a cruel master, or which a man has of a precipice, the plague, or death, but a reverential fear. It is the fear which a dutiful child has of a kind and virtuous father. Honor God with your life, not doing anything which He would disapprove. If you have such fear of God His mercy descends on you. And that mercy will be unceasing; it continues and abounds, also will descend on your children and children's children, on your generations. It is an unspeakable privilege to be descended from pious parents; to have been the subject of their prayers, and to have received their blessing. It is also a matter of vast guilt not to copy their example and to walk in their steps.
Teach your children and let them teach their children and on and on like that, so that you will continually enjoy God’s mercy. And as a child, walk in the fear of the Lord.
