New King James Version:
“and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.”

“Fully satisfied and assured that God was able and mighty to keep His word and to do what He had promised.”
Good News Translation:
“He was absolutely sure that God would be able to do what he had promised.”
Beloved, this is a description of true faith.
Abraham had not only faith, a strong faith, but full assurance of faith, that what God had promised; though it was so long and there were so many difficulties in the way, He was able, being the Lord God Almighty, to perform, so his faith rested upon the power of God, with whom nothing is impossible. Look upon God as one that is perfectly able to do whatever He had promised, and as one that is most faithful, and sure never to fail in the performance of those promises. Just as Abraham and heroes of faith trusted God and He never failed them, thoroughly and convincingly trust Him, even when all you see is impossibility or obstruction. Do not doubt Him because unbelief is at the bottom of all our staggerings at God's promises. The strength of faith appears in its victory over fears. God honours faith; and great faith honors God. He will always make good on what He promises His children.
